The purpose of the Chemical Hygiene Plan (CHP) is to inform students, employees, and lab personnel of Mississippi State University’s health and safety policies. MSU Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) has developed this manual to assist in the recognition, evaluation, and control of hazards associated with laboratory and chemical operations. The CHP forms the foundation for the safe use of chemicals and is intended to establish baseline safety practices for working in a laboratory. Due to the wide scope of research taking place at MSU, each department is responsible for developing department-specific standard operating procedures to supplement this manual for hazards associated with their departments.
