Indoor Air Quality

Indoor Air Quality

Indoor air quality (IAQ) describes the physical and chemical characteristics of air inside buildings. IAQ is concerned with the impact of airborne constituents on the health and comfort of the occupants. There are many possible contaminants including mold, bacteria, viruses, allergens, smoke, ozone and sewer gas to name just a few. Some of the factors that can affect the air quality are the source of the contaminant (was a room just painted?), the HVAC system (is the condensate drain pan not draining properly leading to water and mold problems?), the air flow within the building (does an exhaust fan not work properly in the restroom?) and the people inside (are there too many people in a space that is not adequately ventilated such as a classroom?).

If you are experiencing indoor air quality issues, please contact the Environmental Health & Safety.
